The elections in Ecuador
The process began with relative normality. Early in the morning, disadvantages were reported in the conformation of some meetings, problem that was overcome under the coordination of the representatives of the CNE (Consejo Nacional Electoral) in every enclosure.
At 6:30, this April 26, began the official inauguration of the electoral process in most of the country. Authorities, candidates and delegates of parties were present at the inaugural act, in the different places destined for this event.
In these elections it was possible to saw what in the last constituent assembly was resolved; young people from 16 to 18 years of age exercised the optional vote and also the members of the police and the army.
Was a huge success campaign of the Solidary Taxi, which facilitated the transport of the persons with special capacities to the different electoral enclosures.
The last victory of the left side occurred this Sunday, the President Rafael Correa of Ecuador, an economist who was firstly chosen at the end of the year 2006, was reelect under a new constitution. It gives to the charismatic leader of 46 years of age, four more years, with the option to be reelect once more for another mandate.
I think that there are several reasons for which the majority of the Ecuadorians will continue leaning their president, in spite of what they listen in the television news. About 1,3 million poor people of Ecuador now receive a bond of 30 $ for month, which is an important advance. The social expenses like fraction of the economy have increased for most than 50 per cent in the two years of Correa in mandate. Last year the government also inverted considerably in public works, doubling the amount of the capitals expenses.
